Phasemaster Phase Converter

Phasemaster® converts 230 or 460V single phase service to 230 or 460V three-phase power. It is ideal for rapidly growing areas where electrical facilities have not kept pace with the demand for three-phase power.

Phasemaster® is also practical in remote areas where distance makes it too expensive to extend three-phase power lines. Phasemaster can be an economical advantage even in areas where three-phase service is available due to utility rate structures.

In addition to motor applications, Phasemaster also solves the problems of single to three-phase conversion for solid state power supply loads in transmitters, computers, and other electronic equipment.

Economical operation

Phasemaster is completely pre-wired for ease of installation. The unit features trouble free oil-type capacitors which provide power factor correction for the entire system. Each motor operating at less than full horsepower actually helps stabilize the entire system. Motors connected to the Phasemaster develop full rated horsepower output and operate at high efficiency. The Phasemaster permits three-phase motors to operate at performance levels equivalent to utility supplied three-phase. No-load losses are minimal and idling currents are lower than that of an electric motor of comparable size.

Lower costs

One Phasemaster, properly sized, can handle an entire electrical service. Typically, a Model 3 Phasemaster can usually support the three-phase equivalent of the average load connected on a 200 ampere single phase service. This is particularly desirable in seasonal use where payment of a monthly three-phase minimum is not warranted. In most instances the converter pays for itself through the use of thee-phase motors which are less expensive and more efficient than single phase motors and have lower monthly power costs. Three-phase motors operating on a Phasemaster or three-phase service generally have a service life 6 to 8 times greater than that of single phase motors. Phasemaster has the highest horsepower capacity-per-dollar invested of any rotary converter on the market.

One source power

Phasemaster delivers true three-phase power with each sine wave 120° apart. The Phasemaster provides three-phase power to any combination of motors varying in horsepower, speed, duty, cycle, etc., while operating individually, simultaneously, intermittently, or continuously. Phasemaster can also be used for supplying inductive and resistive loads simultaneously.

Phasemaster is reliable

Phasemaster is designed to provide years of continuous worry-free performance. There are no service-prone parts such as contactors, relays, centrifugal switches, electrolytic capacitors, or time delay devices. No adjustment, regulation, or motor phase balancing is required with the Phasemaster.

Diverse applications

Wherever single phase power and a need for motors come together, Phasemaster should be specified to realize investment and operating advantages. The following applications indicate the extreme versatility of Phasemaster:

In industry for

welding, finishing, cutting and shaping metal, air handling, conveyor, power transmission;

In business for

printing, TV, radio station, restaurant, marina, car wash, laundry, ski resort;

In agriculture for

corn dryer, auger, elevator, baler, dairy, cream separator, irrigation;

In the lumber industry for

saw mill motor driven equipment;

And for Construction, Mining, Filtration Plants, Lift Stations, etc.

Phasemaster has been proven safe, economical, and reliable in thousands of tests and applications for over 20 years.

Advanced design features

Phasemaster's special patented construction enables it to function as a device for the regulation of voltage. This is especially important in radio transmission or wherever high spike voltage conditions disturb proper performance of connected equipment.

Phasemaster's unique design offers the utmost in heat dissipation, thus protecting the converter against overheating and rotor failure.

High starting capability

There are no delays with the Phasemaster; it reaches full speed almost instantly and maintains sufficient terminal voltage to start motors with long starting cycles or with frequent starts and stops.

Phasemaster's great capacity allows for an unlimited number of stops, starts, and instant reversals without overheating.

Infinite speed capacity and instant reversing

Phasemaster can handle motors operating at any given speed and instant reverse cycles are achieved as efficiently with Phasemaster as on utility supplied three-phase.

Options

Other Phasemaster options include Circuit Protectors, High Starting Torque Pak's, Power Pak's, and lightning arresters.

Phasemaster Models

The following chart shows the Phasemaster models with horsepower and resistance load capabilities. This chart can be used as a guide to determine the Phasemaster size for many applications. However, the most important factor in proper sizing, is the application of the motor or motors to be operated.

Installation

Phasemaster is easy to install and a complete wiring diagram is shipped with each unit. It need not be adjacent to the equipment it operates. Distance is not a factor, providing sufficient size wire is used to minimize voltage drops.
